Strong bitter is where a British brewery can afford to be generous with hops, because there is enough malt underneath to carry them. This one is brewed in the middle of the hop gardens that supplied English brewing for centuries, and the character is emphatically Kentish: earthy, faintly minty, with the marmalade note that East Kent Goldings give when they are used at this rate.
It is worth putting beside a Burton-tradition strong bitter such as Fuller’s ESB. Same nominal style, same strength band, and the difference between the hop traditions is immediately audible.
