Country
Slovenia
A small brewing country whose larger contribution to beer is agricultural: the Styrian hop-growing tradition of the Savinja valley.
Slovenian hops are grown chiefly in the Savinja valley, and the best-known variety — Styrian Goldings — is genetically Fuggle rather than Goldings, despite the name. Grown in Slovenian conditions it expresses a brighter, more lemony character than English-grown Fuggle, which is a clear practical demonstration that hop terroir is real.
