Young’s
London brewery whose Wandsworth Ram Brewery site claimed the longest continuous brewing history in Britain until it closed in 2006.
Also known as Young & Co, Ram Brewery.
No longer brewing. BeerHQ keeps closed breweries because historical importance does not end when a company does. Anything said here about current products or availability should be treated as needing verification.
Why it matters
Young’s held out for cask beer through the period when London brewing went almost entirely to keg, and was one of the two London names CAMRA’s early campaigning could point to as proof the tradition survived.

Reference beers
BeerHQ carries only the products that anchor something. This is not the brewery’s full range.
Styles it is associated with
- Ordinary bitter — The everyday British cask ale: low in strength, gently bitter, and built to be drunk in pints over a whole evening.
- Sweet stout — A stout sweetened with lactose, giving chocolate and cream character over a full body and gentle roast.
Traditions
- British cask ale — Beer that completes its fermentation in the container it is served from and is dispensed without added gas, at cellar rather than fridge temperature.
- London porter brewing — The first industrial-scale brewing tradition, built in eighteenth-century London around dark beer, long maturation and enormous vats.
