Brouwerij Westvleteren

Trappist abbey brewery at Sint-Sixtus, producing only enough beer to support the monastery and selling it only at the gate.

Also known as Sint-Sixtusabdij van Westvleteren, Westvleteren.

Why it matters

The clearest working demonstration of what the Trappist mark actually certifies: brewing inside the walls, under monastic control, with proceeds directed to the community — and production deliberately capped rather than maximised.
