Friesisches Brauhaus zu Jever
Frisian brewery on the North Sea coast producing one of the most assertively bitter pilsners in Germany.
Also known as Jever.
Why it matters
The northern end of the German pils spectrum: very soft local water and a high hopping rate produce a bitterness that southern examples do not approach, and the north–south difference is most legible here.
